This is Lauri Schreiber, Village Administrator with information about the Village snow/ice control program for this year.
As many remember, last winter brought exceptional cold and snow. The cold resulted in frozen rivers with salt barges unable to navigate. Salt supplies dwindled for all state, county and municipal agencies. Those that could get salt at the end of the season paid an enormous price per ton; many agencies, including Kildeer ended up using a sand/salt mix at the end of last season.
Due to the outrageous increase in the cost of rock salt (three times last year’s cost), and current budget constraints, the Village of Kildeer will be applying a sand/salt mixture for this entire 08/09 season. What this means is that the streets on which you travel in the Village may not be bare-to-the-pavement at times. We ask that you be extra careful, drive more slowly, be more consciously aware of stopping distances, and be patient as road conditions will be more challenging at times this winter.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
